Stanford Sweeps Menlo

Cardinal moves to 7-6 in the MPSF

ATHERTON, Calif. – Led by Luke Morrison, No. 14 Stanford swept Menlo College, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, Friday, at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.

Stanford (10-14, 7-6 MPSF) hit .441 as a team – its third-highest output of the season. The Cardinal held Menlo (3-19, 2-11 MPSF) to a .118 clip, while posting six aces and 7.5 blocks.

Morrison, a freshman from Irvine, hit a team-high .636 with nine kills on 11 swings with just two errors. The opposite also tallied two digs, an ace and a block.

Setter Jacob Little-Phillips started the first two sets, dishing out 18 assists to go with two digs and two blocks, including one of the solo variety to seal the second set. Sophomore Ryan Gant took over setting duties to start the final frame, finishing with 11 assists.

Sophomore David Wolff chipped in with six kills on a .417 attack percentage, a career-high three aces, and two blocks. Junior middle blocker Gray Mandelbaum hit .625 with five kills on eight errorless swings to go with an ace and a block. Libero Evan Porter collected four digs and two assists.

Junior Carson Kneisl came off the bench in all three sets, posting five kills on .444 hitting, two digs, two blocks and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Erik Ask also registered five kills, while sophomore middle blocker Reed Wainwright finished with two kills, two digs and a match-best five blocks.

Keau Thompson had a match-high 10 kills, an ace and a block to lead the Oaks.

The Cardinal closes out the regular season on Saturday, hosting Menlo for Senior Night in Maples Pavilion. First serve is set for 6 p.m. on B1G+. Stanford will honor its six seniors with a postmatch ceremony.
