Leach Clinches Again, Card Beats NC State

Stanford picked up its second straight thrilling win by a 4-3 margin

STANFORD, Calif. – In a match that stretched nearly four hours, No. 25 Stanford men’s tennis defeated No. 23 NC State, 4-3, at Arrillaga Tennis Center. The Cardinal improves to 15-7 this season and 8-4 in the ACC, and it completes a weekend sweep to open its new stadium.

The Cardinal struck first in doubles to take an early lead. Samir Banerjee and Jagger Leach connected for a 6-4 victory on court three, but NC State pulled a match back on court two. Alex Razeghi and Alex Chang clinched the advantage with their 16th win of the season as a duo, 7-5.

NC State leveled the match on court six, but Stanford quickly regained the lead, 2-1, after a clinical performance on court one from Razeghi, 6-0, 6-1, for the highest-ranked win of his career against the nation’s No. 21 player. Hudson Rivera pushed the score to 3-1 with a ranked win of his own on court three, 7-5, 6-3, but the Wolfpack rallied to tie the match at 3-3.

Coming down to his court for the second consecutive match, Jagger Leach clinched the victory on court five in three sets, 7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 6-4. The freshman improved to 14-5 in dual play this season.

Prior to the match, the Cardinal honored its senior class of Banerjee, one of the few players in program history to be both an All-American and Academic All-American, and Chang, who has made a large impact on the court in his first season on the Farm.

Stanford improves to 2-1 all-time against the Wolfpack.

Stanford returns to action on Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at California.
