For the first time in program history, Stanford women’s lacrosse is off to the NCAA Quarterfinals as the Cardinal dispelled No. 19 Penn State and No. 7-seeded Michigan Wolverines, in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. With the wins, Stanford has earned the most wins in program history (17) while securing its first-ever NCAA Second Round win.
Against Penn State, Aliya Polisky and Lindsey Devir led the charge for the Cardinal offensively as both players recorded a brace while the Cardinal defense cut off the Nittany Lions with 11 caused turnovers and nine Lucy Pearson saves en route to a 7-5 win.
In the second round, with the Wolverines up by one with 2:52 remaining in regulation, Michigan stepped up to the eight-meter hash with a chance to regain a two-goal lead. However, Lucy Pearson’s fifth save of the day stymied the Wolverines final chance of the day, giving the Cardinal a late lifeline.
Jordyn Case grabbed the eventual game-winning goal on the eight-meter hash with under a minute to play. Polisky and co. then ran out the clock to grab a record-breaking 13-12 win. Stanford advances to play North Carolina in the elite 8.
