STANFORD, Calif. – In a season where Stanford opened one of the nation’s premier tennis facilities, Stanford men’s tennis posted another strong season for one of the sport’s leading programs. The Cardinal went 19-9 overall, including a 9-4 mark in the ACC, and it reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Championship.
One of the most improved players in the country, Alex Razeghi posted a team-leading 21-4 singles record on the season, including an 18-2 dual mark, and a 21-13 record in doubles. He was also named to the All-ACC second team in both singles and doubles and to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships All-Tournament team at No. 1 doubles in February, alongside Alex Chang. Razeghi posted career-best rankings of No. 6 in doubles and No. 54 in singles, and he ended the season as the No. 1 ranked player in the Northwest Region in both singles and doubles.
Razeghi’s success in doubles came alongside Chang, who was named a third team Academic All-American. Chang joined Razeghi on the All-ACC second team in doubles, while he hosted a 21-14 mark when playing as a tandem and 15-11 record in singles. Chang was ranked as high as No. 41 in singles and No. 6 in doubles.
Jagger Leach had a strong debut season on the Farm, going 16-9 in singles and 12-11 in doubles. He was named the ACC Freshman of the Week three times and went 8-5 against ACC opponents. Leach became Stanford’s fifth straight ITA Northwest Rookie of the Year, joining Razeghi, Kyle Kang, Nishesh Basavareddy, Max Basing.
Hudson Rivera and Nico Godsick posted strong seasons in the middle of the Cardinal lineup, with Rivera going 15-10 overall while ranked as high as No. 48 in singles, and Godsick 12-7 while reaching a career-best ranking of No. 78. As a pair, Rivera and Godsick were ranked as high as No. 16 in doubles.
Injuries played an unfortunate role for Stanford, limiting All-American Samir Banerjee and Kang, who missed the season after spending most of the previous campaign at No. 2 singles. Banerjee fought through an injury at the top of the Cardinal lineup, and he earned the Stanford Athletic Board’s Jake Gimbel Award for competitive toughness at the conclusion of the season.
Stanford’s season started with six consecutive wins, including a home sweeps at ITA Kickoff Weekend to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships and against USC and UCLA – its second consecutive season sweep of its Los Angeles rivals. Stanford went 1-2 at ITA Indoors, beating Arizona State to reach the quarterfinals.
