STANFORD, Calif. –Stanford finished the 2026 campaign with a 28-26 overall record and a 13-17 mark in the ACC to finish tied for 10th in the standings.
The program honored legendary head coach Mark Marquess, who passed away on January 30, 2026, throughout the season with "9" jersey patches, helmet stickers and an outfield wall decal at Sunken Diamond. Marquess, who managed a career record of 1,627-878-7 (.649), led the Cardinal to back-to-back NCAA titles in 1987-88 as part of a 41-season tenure overseeing the program that began in 1977.
Showing a flair for the dramatic, Stanford’s 2026 squad posted six walk-off wins - including three straight from April 25-27. In addition to the six walk-off wins, Stanford also won a pair of road games in its final at-bat - accumulating eight total victories in its final at-bat this season.
Playing tight games throughout the year, Stanford saw 32 of its 54 games decided by three runs or less. Despite suffering 26 losses during the season, the Cardinal had the lead or tying run at the plate in the eighth or ninth inning of 15 of the 26 setbacks.
Offensively, the Cardinal hit .283 as a team with 363 runs scored, 113 doubles, nine triples and 84 home runs while averaging 6.72 runs per game. Stanford homered in all but 15 games on the year, including a string of 22 consecutive games from February 27 to April 10. The 22-game streak was the longest for the Cardinal since at least 2001, and the fourth-longest of any program during the season.
The highlight of the year proved to be a three-game sweep over then-No. 8 Florida State at home from April 24-26, which included a pair of walk-off wins to kick off a string of three straight walk-offs for the Cardinal. Stanford’s 9-5 victory over NC State on May 10 was No. 300 at Stanford for Clarke and Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball David Esquer.
The Cardinal pitched to a 6.11 ERA with 458 strikeouts while averaging 8.64 strikeouts per nine innings. Senior Trevor Moore impressed out of the Cardinal bullpen, logging 26 appearances and posting a 7-2 record with a 3.92 ERA while boasting 48 strikeouts and converting five saves over 43 2/3 innings.
Following a victory over rival California to start the ACC Baseball Championship tournament, Stanford saw its season come to an end with a second-round loss to Miami. Showcasing the strength of the conference, nine ACC teams made the NCAA Tournament, with North Carolina eventually reaching the College World Series final.
Turning in a historic freshman season on The Farm, Teddy Tokheim was named NCBWA Freshman Hitter of the Year, ABCA/Rawlings All-America third team, Freshman All-America first team, ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region first team, All-ACC second team, and was named a finalist for Baseball America Freshman of the Year. Tokheim led the Cardinal in hitting with a .352 average, posting 40 runs scored, 19 doubles, 17 home runs and 47 RBIs while compiling a .414 on-base percentage and a .704 slugging percentage. The team leader with both 23 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI contests, Tokheim hit safely in 38 of his 48 games played, had an extra-base hit in 25 of the 48, and reached in all but eight of his games played. Thirty-six of Tokheim's 70 hits went for extra bases and he ranked first among true freshmen in extra-base hits (36) and total bases (140), second in home runs, third in doubles, fourth in slugging and OPS (1.118), 10th in batting average, and 17th in RBIs. Tokheim's 17 home runs were one shy of the Stanford freshman record of 18 set by Braden Montgomery in 2022.
Following the end of the regular season, College Baseball Foundation announced 21 standouts, including Stanford’s Dave McCarty, who will be inducted as part of the 2026 class of the College Baseball Hall of Fame. McCarty, who will be inducted posthumously following his passing in 2024, is the second former Cardinal to be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame - joining Marquess who was inducted in 2021.
