Men's Tennis Sends Duo to Battle in the Bay

Both players make their season debuts in San Francisco

  • The fall tennis season continues this weekend in San Francisco at the Battle in the Bay, hosted by California at the California Tennis Club. The action begins on Thursday, Oct. 1 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 4.
  • Stanford will send two players to the tournament in singles and together as doubles pair. Gus Grumet and Mark Krupkin will participate in the tournament, marking the collegiate debut for Grumet and the season opener for Krupkin.
  • Krupkin opens the singles bracket on Thursday, Oct. 1 at noon against Michigan State’s Taym Alazmeh while Grumet will face Mississippi State’s No. 61 Bryan Hernandez Cortes at 4:30 p.m. The doubles bracket kicks off the morning on Thursday, with Grumet and Krupkin taking on Arizona State’s duo of Ofek Shimanov and Niels Villard at 9 a.m.
  • The Cardinal has three singles players slotted in the preseason ITA rankings: Alex Razeghi (23), Hudson Rivera (56) and Kyle Kang (86). Additionally, two doubles pairs are ranked: Nathan Barki/Razeghi (10), Nico Godsick/Rivera (21).
  • Opening the 2026 fall slate in Tulsa at the ITA All-American Championships, Rivera and Ronit Karki scored their first singles wins of the season while Alex Razeghi was upset in the main draw round of 64.
  • In a 2025-26 season where Stanford opened one of the nation’s premier tennis facilities, Stanford went 19-9 overall, including a 9-4 mark in the ACC, and it reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Championship for the fifth consecutive season. Razeghi was named to the All-ACC second team in singles and doubles, and honored as the ITA Northwest Region Player to Watch, as one of the most improved players in the country, going a team-leading 21-4 with an 18-2 dual mark last spring. Jagger Leach was named the ITA Northwest Region Rookie of the Year after going 16-9 during his freshman campaign, while Hudson Rivera provided 15 singles wins and Nico Godsick 12.
  • Overall, Stanford returns eight players from last season’s roster while adding a top-seven recruiting class nationally in blue chip talents Ronit Karki (#4 national recruit per Tennis Recruiting Network) and Gus Grumet (#17). In addition to Razeghi’s accolades from 2026, Kyle Kang (second team) and Nico Godsick (honorable mention) were All-Pac-12 selections in 2024. Stanford won the 2025 ACC Tournament in its first season in the conference.
  • The Cardinal has had success on the professional level, notably with Nishesh Basavareddy, Tristan Boyer and Arthur Fery in recent years. Fery captivated the tennis world at Wimbledon in June with a run to the semifinals, becoming the seventh Stanford players to reach the semifinals of Wimbledon and the first since John McEnroe in 1992. Fery, Basavareddy and Boyer have all earned grand slam wins, with Fery and Basavareddy entering the top-100 rankings in the world.
  • As of September 2026, Stanford has four alumni in the ATP top-300: Fery (36, career-high 33), Basavareddy (139, career-high 99), Boyer (203, career-high 106) and Max Basing (245, career-high 219).
  • Paul Goldstein is in his 13th season as the Taube Family Director of Men's Tennis. Goldstein’s teams have posted a 211-88 record with a national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Championships in each of his seasons at the helm.
