- Stanford will have its second opportunity to qualify individuals for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, which begin Thursday on The Farm.
- ITA Northwest Regionals are returning to Stanford for the first time since 2023. They had been at Cal for the past two seasons during construction of the Arrillaga Tennis Center. Stanford had hosted Regionals for the 16 seasons prior.
- In the third season of a new-look fall calendar that culminates with the NCAA Individual Championships from Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Georgia. The two singles finalists and the doubles champion from the northwest region will qualify.
- Six Cardinal student-athletes will be in action this weekend in both singles and doubles – Monika Ekstrand, Alyssa Ahn, Tianmei Wang, Katerina Shabashkevich, Kaia Giribalan and Sein Myoung.
- In singles, all six from Stanford will begin play in Friday’s main draw. Ekstrand is the No. 1 seed, Ahn No. 2, Wang No. 3, Shabashkevich No. 4 and Giribalan a No. 9.
- In doubles, Stanford’s seeded pairs of No. 4 Ekstrand and Ahn and No. 5 Giribalan and Wang have byes into the Round of 32 and will open Friday. Myoung and Shabashkevich will play Saint Mary’s Elif Gunal and Sydney Wilson on Thursday at 9 a.m.
- Alyssa Ahn won last the singles title at last year’s ITA Northwest Regional Championships, the second consecutive freshman winner for the Cardinal following Valerie Glozman in 2024.
- Stanford has produced the tournament singles champion in 13 of the last 15 years: Ahn (2025), Glozman (2024), Alexandra Yepifanova (2022), Connie Ma (2021), Michaela Gordon (2019, 2018, 2017), Taylor Davidson (2015), Carol Zhao (2014), Kristie Ahn (2013, 2010), Krista Hardebeck (2012) and Nicole Gibbs (2011).
- The Cardinal has six ranked players in Valerie Glozman (No. 18), Monika Ekstrand (No. 19), Alyssa Ahn (No. 29), Alexis Blokhina (No. 87), Tianmei Wang (No. 119) and Katerina Shabashkevich (No. 123). In doubles, Blokhina and Glozman are No. 21 and Ahn and Wang are No. 81.
- Stanford is in its third season under Paul A. Violich Director of Women’s Tennis Frankie Brennan, who is 31-20 as head coach.
- Since joining the staff in 1996, Brennan has enhanced Stanford's reputation as the country's top program by helping guide the Cardinal to a 731-91 overall record, 12 NCAA championships, 21 conference regular-season titles and six conference tournament crowns. During his tenure, Brennan has mentored 39 All-Americans.
