VERONA, Wis. — James Dargan and Julia Flynn led the charge for the Cardinal as the Stanford cross country team competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, on Friday. The Stanford men placed eight in the field while the Cardinal women earned 12th in the team competition as both squads competed in one of the nation’s deepest fields this season.
On the women’s side, Julia Flynn led the way for Stanford for the third-straight race, earning a personal-best time of 19:50.9 and a 27th place finish overall. Behind Flynn, Amaya Bharadwaj earned her personal-best time of 20:12.6 to place inside the top 50, earning 43rd overall in her third collegiate race. Hanne Thomsen secured third in the Cardinal leaderboard with a 105th place finish while Hillary Studdert and Chiara Dailey both grabbed personal-best times to round out the scoring for the Cardinal.
James Dargan led the Cardinal men to a top-10 finish as a squad, grabbing his first top-25 placement of the season with a personal-best time of 23:12.0. Following the junior, a trio of Cardinal placed second through fourth in the pecking order with Byron Grevious, Sean Fries and Leo Young finishing in order. Grevious and Fries both claimed personal-best times to place 61st and 63rd, respectively, while Young rounded out the top-70 harriers in 70th. Josh Bell claimed the final scoring spot for Stanford while Evan Noonan and Patrick Koon placed as the reserve scores for the Cardinal.
In the Men’s 8K “B” race, Four harriers ran for the Cardinal including Marshall Vernon, Alexander Fisher, Quinn White and Cooper Barr with Vernon placing 89th overall to lead Stanford’s quartet.
Stanford is back in action in just over a week for a last chance meet at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., on Saturday, October 17.
