Stanford, CA - The men's and women's Stanford Crew team will travel to the Port of Sacramento on Saturday to compete against the Aggies of UC Davis. Racing is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. The Stanford men's and women's varsity eights will consist of the same lineups that were used last week at the San Diego Crew Classic. In San Diego, the women's varsity eight placed third in the Cal Cup, while the men finished fourth in the Copley Cup, for tenth place overall. The Stanford women will attempt to defeat Davis for the second consecutive weekend, after the Aggies finished fifth in last week's Crew Classic Cal Cup. Last year at Redwood Shores, Stanford defeated Davis by nine seconds in the men's varsity eight, but the Davis varsity women bettered Stanford by three seconds.
On Saturday afternoon, the Cardinal women will race Kansas State. The two teams met last year on the Snake River in Pullman, Wash. where the Cardinal defeated the Wildcats by 11 seconds.
On Sunday, Stanford's women will face Sacramento State for the second weekend in a row. At last weekend's Crew Classic, Sacramento State beat the Cardinal by 2.6 seconds to capture the Cal Cup first-place trophy. Last year, Sacramento State finished ahead of Stanford in both meetings between the two teams. The Hornets beat the Cardinal by six seconds during their dual race at Redwood Shores, but Stanford closed the gap considerably at the Pac-10 Championships, getting nosed-out by one second. Racing is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
