Fasani, Allen, Heitmann and Quaccia Selected in NFL Draft

April 21, 2002

The NFL Draft concluded Sunday in New York with four more Stanford football players selected, bringing the total to six in the two-day, seven round draft. It marked the first time in school history that Stanford had six players taken in the first seven rounds of the draft. Previously, the Cardinal has had six players drafted on six other occasions - the last time being 1985. In 1936, Stanford had seven players drafted in nine rounds.

On Sunday, the four selections included QB Randy Fasani, fifth round (137th overall) to the Carolina Panthers, RB Brian Allen, sixth round (204th Overall) to the Indianapolis Colt, OG Eric Heitmann, seventh round (239th overall) to the San Francisco 49ers, and C Zack Quaccia, seventh round (255th overall) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the first day of the draft, Tank Williams and Coy Wire were chosen. Williams went to the Tennessee Titans with the 45th pick overall in the second round while Wire was a third round pick (97th overall) by the Buffalo Bills.

In 1985, six Stanford players were drafted in the first 10 rounds. The other years in which Stanford had six players drafted were 1975, 1974, 1972, 1944 and 1943
