Stanford has been awarded one of two at-large berths to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's National Championship. In the Pacific Coast Qualifier, held May 1-2 at Stanford, the Cardinal were edged out in the last two races by 3rd-ranked USC, who finished 2nd bhind 10th-ranked U Hawaii. "We were only three points out of qualifying," explained Head Coach Jay Kehoe, "and even lead the regatta at some points during the weekend." Kehoe continued,"these berths exist for districts like ours, where we have a number of strong nationally-ranked teams."
Sailing for the Cardinal in A-Division at Coed PCC's were skipper Brian Haines with crews Caroline Young and Jennifer Porter. Skipper Peter Deming and crews Lucy Horton and Taylor Clark sailed in B-Division. Both A and B teams were third in their divisions, leaving the Cardinal third to UH and USC by small margins.
The Stanford Women's Sailing Team qualified for Women's Nationals in April, beating out top teams from USC and UC Irvine.
