Charleston, SC - In their first appearance since winning the Team Race Nationals in 1997, the Cardinal sailors earned 8th overall in the 3-day event held in Charleston Harbor just off the College of Charleston Sailing Center. Stanford entered the event as the Pacfic Coast Team Race Champions.

Team Racing pits three boats from one team against three boats from another.

Teams use boathandling and strategy to finish aheadfor their competitors.

Conditions varied during the three days, from light air to windy seabreeze conditions. Stanford fared well in their initial qualifying round on Sunday, coming out with a 3-3 record that earned them a position in the Elite Eight. Mondays racing was tough, with numerous lead changes throughout each race. "Our team was in the mix, but they were definitely a bit nervous," commented Head Coach Jay Kehoe. "we have a young team, and this experience sets them up for more success next year." The Cardinal lost all but one race, defeating Yale, to finish 8th overall.

Sailing for the Cardinal were Brian Haines and crews Becca Levin/Kelly McKenna, Emery Wager and crew Taylor Grimes/Joanna Madsen, and Eddie Conrad with crews Anna Vu and Cameron Bell. All but Vu return next year.
