Starbird, Mulitauaopele Lead No. 3 Cardinal Past Oregon, 85-61
STANFORD, Calif. -- Kate Starbird scored 22 points and Naomi Mulitauaopele added 21 points and seven rebounds as third-ranked Stanford claimed an 85-61 victory over Oregon in the Pac-10.
The Cardinal (17-1, 5-0) shot just 42 percent (26-of-62) from the field, but capitalized on 25 Oregon turnovers. Jenny Mowe led Oregon with 17 points.
Mulitauaopele hit a 17-footer from the left corner 1:45 into the game to give Stanford the lead for good. Stanford closed the first half with a 12-2 run, including a 15-footer by Jamila Wideman with five seconds left.
Wideman had five points, five assists and four of Stanford's 10 steals. Olympia Scott added 13 points and nine rebounds as the Cardinal made 30 of their 41 free-throw attempts. Oregon was just 11-of-20 from the line.
Stanford scored the first five points of the second half to extend the lead to 23 points. The Cardinal built it to 30 points twice in the second half.
