Resources for the Community

Stanford Athletics promotes the importance of community involvement through the C.A.R.D. rules, guidelines for student-athlete involvement in service initiatives.

C.A.R.D. Rules

  • Commitment - Committing to a belief, project, or cause means holding yourself and others accountable for their role and involvement. This means recognizing the importance and purpose of the project and striving to achieve success in all that is done.
  • Awareness - Understanding the needs, interests, and dynamics of the community and the specific projects we are involved with develops conscientious and mindful student-athletes who can make a meaningful impact on the projects they are involved with.
  • Relationship - Creating connections with the community is an essential part of recognizing the impact of your efforts, as well as creating sustainable partnerships based on common goals, beliefs, and interests, and enhance the experience beyond just completing a task.
  • Discussion - Individuals best understand their experiences and impact on an organization by having meaningful discussions with their peers and others involved in the activities. We encourage student-athletes to converse with those they interact with to learn and share through the process.
