General - An extremely talented and athletic catcher • Has great arm strength and is an excellent receiver defensively, as well as a potent bat offensively • Handles pitchers well • Has an excellent attitude • Became Stanford's everyday catcher for the first time in 2004 • Performed well when he had a chance during his first two years (2002-03) but was forced to play a lot of either first base or designated hitter while behind First Team All-American Ryan Garko at the catcher position • Has increased the rate of his improvement while he gets a chance to play behind the plate consistently • One of the team's fastest players and top baserunners • Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the second as the 59th pick overall in the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

2004 Season Notes (Junior) - Earned All-Pac-10 honors for the first time in his career • Had a .313 batting average with 12 homers, 47 RBI and five stolen bases • Added 65 hits, 53 runs scored, 10 doubles, 17 walks and a team-high 11 hit-by-pitches to go with a .534 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base mark • Started 56 of Stanford's 60 games at catcher • Posted a career-high 15-game hit streak (3/28 - 4/30; .458, 27-59, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 1 SB) that tied for the second longest run by a Cardinal player in 2004.

2003 Season Notes (Sophomore) - Hit .291 with a pair of homers, 18 RBI and six stolen bases • Added nine doubles • Used primarily as the team's designated hitter against left-handed pitching and as the first pinch-hitter off the bench, leading the team with seven pinch-hits and going 7-for-11 (.636) in the role • Put up great defensive numbers, tossing out 6-of-10 (60.0%) runners trying to steal on him • Hit .357 (5-14) in the postseason and was also successful offensively in Pac-10 action, hitting .345 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and five stolen bases in 19 games and 12 starts • Provided arguably the most dramatic moment of Stanford's regular season with a walkoff homer to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning, clinching the outright Pac-10 title and giving the Cardinal a 9-8, 10-inning victory over UCLA (5/18) to cap a game in which he equaled a career-high with three hits as he was 3-for-5 as the team's catcher filling in for injured starter Ryan Garko • Played in 49 games with 34 starts, including 19 at designated hitter, as well as seven each at catcher and first base, and one in right field • Posted a career-high-tying seven-game hit streak (4/7-4/19) • Was 2-for-3 in the NCAA Super Regional opener versus Long Beach State (6/6) • Was 2-for-3 with a career-high-tying three runs scored and a pair of RBI versus Cal Poly (5/23) • Was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at USC (5/3), adding a career-high-tying three runs scored • Had a key pinch-hit RBI single in Stanford's four-run eighth inning of a 10-9 comeback win over Arizona (4/26) • Had a career-high-tying three hits (3-4) with his first homer of the season, a double and an RBI versus Oregon State (4/17) • Scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning at Arizona State (3/23), stealing second base and scoring on Sam Fuld's RBI single after pinch-running for Jed Lowrie • Had a key RBI double in an 8-7 win at Texas (2/22 - Game 2) • Snapped out of an 0-for-15 skid with a double versus Nevada (2/17) • Had a double in the season-opener at Santa Clara (1/25).
2002 Season Notes (Freshman) - Spent most of the first half of the season as a starter, primarily at first base • Named an honorable mention Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball • Finished the season with 36 games played and 25 starts (17 at first base, four at catcher, four at designated hitter) • Hit .282 with three homers, 29 RBI and was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases • Tossed out three-of-eight runners attempting to steal (37.5%) • Had nine multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI contests, including four games of three RBI • Had at least one RBI in each of his first 12 collegiate starts (2/8-3/2), picking up three RBI in four of the contests and totaling 22 runs driven in during the stretch • Also hit safely in 12 of his first 13 starts (18-54, .333) • Played in just one postseason game but hit a key double to lead off the bottom of the 13th inning before scoring the game-winning run in a 3-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the first game of the NCAA Regional (5/31) • Was 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI at Arizona (4/6) • Had the first triple of his career versus Cal Poly (3/2) as part of a 2-for-4, two-RBI game • Posted a career-high-tying seven-game hit streak (2/18-3/3) in which he was 10-for-29 (.345) with a triple, two homers, 10 RBI and three stolen bases • Homered versus Santa Clara (2/24) after his first two collegiate homers the previous week versus Brigham Young (2/12) and at Fresno State (2/18), picking up three RBI in both games • Had two huge games to begin the Florida State series, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base in the series opener (2/8) and then 3-for-6 with a double, a stolen base and three RBI in the middle game (2/9).

Amateur Summer Baseball - Had a productive summer season in 2003 with Hyannis of the Cape Cod League, helping to the lead the Mets to a playoff spot by hitting .262 with a homer, 12 RBI and five stolen bases • Also spent the summer of 2002 with Hyannis, hitting .159 with a homer, six RBI and five stolen bases • Played with the Encinitas Reds in the Connie Mack Orange County League in 2001 • Participated with the nation's top high school prospects on the 2000 USA Junior National Team that finished second at the World Championships in Canada.
