Matt Moran joined the Stanford football program in 2015 as a special teams graduate assistant, while pursuing a graduate degree in liberal arts. The 2021 season is his seventh on The Farm.

Moran came to Stanford from Rutgers, where he was defensive quality control assistant with the defensive backs during the spring of 2015.

Prior to his stop with the Scarlet Knights, he served on staff at Albright College (Pa.) as running backs coach and assistant special teams coordinator for the 2013 and 2014 seasons, leading Albright to a postseason bowl game in each season. Albright blocked nine kicks in 2014, and Malik Gilmore was named an All-America special teams performer for his four blocked kicks.

Moran attended Bowdoin (Maine), where he graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's of arts degree in philosophy -- focusing on ethics and metaphysics -- and a minor in music.

The West Warwick, Rhode Island, native was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Polar Bears football team. The 2009 NESCAC Academic All-Conference selection played wide receiver, free safety, punt and kick returner and rotated at quarterback.

After graduating from Bowdoin, he returned to his alma mater as an offensive assistant under head coach Dave Caputi to tutor quarterbacks and wide receivers in the no-huddle, up-tempo offense during the 2010 season.
