Mike Chatman enters his fifth season as the Sports Performance Coach for the men’s basketball team in 2023-24. 

Chatman had previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Strength & Conditioning at Towson and prior to that was an Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning at Southern Mississippi, where he served as the men’s basketball director of basketball performance.

Chatman managed the strength and conditioning staff and programs at Towson, and worked primarily with the men’s basketball and volleyball teams along with the men’s women’s golf programs.

In his previous stop, Chatman worked with the Southern Mississippi men’s basketball coaching staff to develop movement and mobility protocols that produced positive results on the basketball court. He also coordinated meetings with the nutritionists and athletic trainers.

Prior to his appointment at Southern Mississippi, Chatman worked at Michigan, Texas and Penn State. Chatman also served at Southeastern University as the head strength and conditioning coach for men’s basketball. He began his professional career at Southern, where he was an intern and assistant strength and conditioning coach for basketball, football and track.

Chatman has worked with NCAA Tournament programs at Michigan, Texas and Southern.

Chatman is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, practicing as a certified strength and conditioning specialist. In addition, Chatman has a sports performance certification from USA Weightlifting, is Certified Level I of Functional Movement Screen, a performance enhancement specialist for the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a certified specialist in speed and explosion of the National Association of Speed and Explosion. Chatman is also CPR certified by the American Red Cross. Chatman graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in applied science. He earned his master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania.
