Rubén López Martínez enters his second season on The Farm after Cardinal men's gymnastics coaching staff in January 2024.
In his first season with Stanford, the Cardinal won its fifth consecutive national championship to become just the second program in NCAA history to accomplish the feat. Under López Martínez's guidance, Stanford brought home an all-around national champion (Khoi Young, a three-time event national champion (Asher Hong), and a Nissen-Emery award winner (Colt Walker) in 2024.
López Martínez brings nearly two decades of world-class gymnastics experience to the Cardinal staff as a former member of the Spanish national team (2006-2021). As a member of Team Spain, López Martínez competed at the 2012 London Olympic Games and served as an alternate in 2016 at the Rio Olympics.
Other international accomplishments include becoming a 2017 World Cup finalist on still rings and parallel bars, an all-around finalist at the 2015 World Championships in Glasnow, and a 2013 European all-around finalist.
López Martínez is also the founder of WX Academy, an online platform with more than 3.000 educational videos for coaches and athletes of artistic gymnastics, calisthenics and crossfit.
López Martínez graduated from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 2013 with a degree in sport science.
