STANFORD
Stanford extended its win streak over Arizona in Tucson to four in a row dating back to the last Arizona win over Stanford in Tucson on October 11, 1997.
Stanford closed the gap in the all-time series between the clubs to 13-10 in Arizona's favor.
Stanford improved to 2-0 on the road this season and has now won at least its first two games on the road for two of the last three seasons.
Stanford's last three games have been decided by a total of four points with a pair of one-point road wins at USC (24-23) and at Arizona (21-20) sandwiching a 38-36 home loss to TCU.
Fifth-year senior running back Jason Evans had a career-high 78 rushing yards on a career-high and team season-high 21 carries in his first career start. Evans also scored his first TD of the season and the second of his career on a two-yard run with 0:05 remaining in the first half. Evans added his longest rush of the campaign with a 14-yarder and tied a season-best with two receptions for 17 yards.
Tyrone McGraw had a career-high 50 rushing yards on a career-high 16 carries, as well as a career-high 58 all-purpose yards (50 rushing, 8 receiving).
Richard Sherman tied a career-high with six catches (sixth time) for a team-best 69 receiving yards and caught his team-best fourth TD pass of the season on a 33-yard scoring reception with 6:20 to go in the second quarter. Sherman has now led Stanford in receiving yards in 10 of its last 12 games.
Tavita Pritchard recorded career highs in passes completed (19), yards passing (181) and completion percentage (70.4%). Pritchard also threw a career-high two interceptions.
Jeremy Stewart scored his first career touchdown with 5:54 remaining in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 20-20, before Derek Belch put Stanford ahead, 21-20, with the ensuing extra point.
Mark Bradford had one reception to increase his career total to 142, which moved him into sole possession of ninth place on Stanford's all-time reception list.
Austin Gunder had career-highs of four catches and 37 receiving yards with his 37 all-purpose yards also a career-high.
Stanford had 3.0 sacks and now has 21.0 on the season. The Cardinal had just 14.0 in all of 2006 (12 games).
Stanford had 8.0 tackles-for-loss and now has 55.0 TFL on the season to surpass the 46.0 the Cardinal recorded in all of 2006 (12 games).
Stanford forced three turnovers (two fumbles, one interception) to extend its string of forcing at least one turnover to six consecutive games.
Udeme Udofia recorded a career-high 2.0 sacks and equaled a career-best with 2.0 TFL.
Bo McNally led the Cardinal with 10 tackles to record his fifth double-digit tackle game of the season and his third in a row, and increase his team-leading tackle total to 70.
Nick Sanchez had a season-high nine tackles and has 25 tackles in his last three games. Sanchez also picked off his second pass of the season (fifth of his career) and forced his first fumble of the season (third of his career).
Clinton Snyder had nine tackles and now has 47 in his last five contests, moving into second on the club behind team-leader Bo McNally (70) with 51 on the season.
Chike Amajoyi had a career-high six tackles.
Austin Yancy had a career-high six tackles.
Erik Lorig recorded the first sack of his career.
Derek Belch converted all three of his extra point tries to improve to a perfect 20-of-20 for the campaign. Belch did not attempt a field goal for the first time in 2007. Belch put all four of his kickoffs into the end zone for a season-best 70.0 yard average per kickoff.
Jay Ottovegio punted seven times, including a season-best five times inside the 20-yard line. Ottovegio's seven punts went for 322 yards and a season-best average of 46.0 that was just short of his career-best 46.2 average at Notre Dame on October 9, 2004. Ottovegio has updated career totals of 242 punts for 9889 yards and is within reach of both school records currently held by Kevin Miller (1995-98) with 248 punts for 9973 yards.
Stanford averaged a season-best 45.7 net yards per punt.
Stanford tied a season-best two rushing touchdowns.
Pannel Egboh and Chris Horn both extended their starting streaks to 19, while Jim Dray (17) and Anthony Kimble (13) had their starting strings ended.
Matt Kopa (TE) and Brian Bulcke (FB) both played for the first time at new positions.
Stanford's three turnovers (all in the second half) tied a season-high, while the team's two interceptions were the most the club has thrown in 2007. Stanford won a game in which it had more turnovers than its opponent (three compared to two for Arizona) for the first time since a 20-17 win at Oregon State on November 12, 2005, a span of 21 games.
