Complete ResultsDes Moines, Iowa - The historic 100th Drake Relays brought a large contingent of Stanford athletes to compete in several relays as well as individual events. Competing against teams from around the nation, Stanford fared well in several non-traditional relays for the outdoor season.
The men led the way the three top-three relay finishes. They led off with the 4x1,600-meter relay where several of their distance stars participated in an epic battle with Minnesota. In a very close race, the Cardinal finished second with a time of 16:29.85, just 15 hundredths of a second behind the Golden Gophers. The team of J.T. Sullivan, Hakon DeVries, Chris Derrick and Elliott Heath were forced to settle for the runner-up position.
In the 4x800-meter relay, the Cardinal finished third with a time of 7:22.58. The team of Jacob Evans, Dylan Ferris, Justin Reed and Garrett Heath averaged just over 1:50 per relay leg.
Finally in the 4x400-meter relay the Cardinal finished third in their heat and advanced to tomorrow's final. Andrew Dargie, Amaechi Morton, Durell Coleman and Zach Chandy ran a Stanford season best in the event of 3:12.99.
In the individual events the Stanford men were led by Casey Roche who placed ninth in the pole vault. His mark of 17-0 ¾ was a season best and tied a career high for the Stanford sophomore.
Also faring well was Myles Bradley in the 110-meter hurdles who qualified for tomorrow's final with a time of 14.18.
The women also looked strong in the relays with the distance medley finishing third. Lauren Centrowitz, Idara Otu, Alicia Follmar and Laurynne Chetelat finished with a time of 11:16.22.
In the 4x400 meters the Cardinal finished third in their heat, but did not qualify for tomorrow's final. Shataya Hendricks, Idara Otu, Arantxa King and Claire Cormier Thielke ran a time of 3:44.32.
Michaela Wallerstedt led the Cardinal in the individual events, placing sixth in the shot put (50-1 ¾) and 11th in the discus (151-10).
On Wednesday and Thursday Lauren Stewart and Whitney Liehr competed in the heptathlon. Stewart placed 13th with 4,359 points, while Liehr was forced to withdraw after six events.
The Cardinal will be back in action on Saturday for the completion of the 100th Drake Relays. The Cardinal will compete in more relays as well as individual events.
