Des Moines, Iowa - The final day of the 100th Drake Relays was highlighted by the Stanford men capturing the Jim Wheelock Distance Medley Relay. In a meet that emphasizes non-traditional relays, the Cardinal won one of the most competitive events.

In the Jim Wheelock distance medley Elliott Heath led off with the 1,200-meter leg. He handed the baton to Amaechi Morton for 400 meters, followed by Jacob Evans for 800 meters. Elliott's older brother, Garrett Heath completed the winning team with the 1,600-meter leg. Stanford's time of 9:36.14 outdistanced second-place Minnesota by three seconds.

The other relay of the day for the Stanford men was the finals of the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Durell Coleman, Andrew Dargie, Dylan Ferris and Justin Reed finished seventh with a time of 3:17.92.

Leading Stanford in the individual events was Myles Bradley who won the 110-meter hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.56. The time was fastest enough to lower his own school record, but does not count due to the wind.

Also with an event win was Daniel Schaerer in the discus. Schaerer captured the Drake relay title with a throw of 189-10.

Other top individual marks for the men were personal bests for J.T. Sullivan in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:47.93 and Coleman in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.85.

The women also competed in a pair of relays on Saturday. In the 1,600-meter sprint medley Stanford finished third with a time of 3:54.79. The Cardinal team was comprised of Shataya Hendricks, Griffin Matthew, Idara Otu and Claire Cormier Thielke.

In the 4x1,600 meters the Cardinal placed fifth when the team of Laurynne Chetelat, Madeline Duhon, Kristin Reese and Alicia Follmar ran a time of 19:37.04.

In the individual events, Stanford fared well in the long jump where Brittni Dixon-Smith achieved a regional standard of 19-9 ¾. Dixon-Smith placed second in the event, while her teammate Arantxa King placed tied for fourth with a mark of 19-6 ¾.

Other top individuals included a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles from Idara Otu with a time of 1:01.39 and a season best in the hammer throw of 177-0 by Jaynie Goodbody.

Stanford track and field will return to action next Saturday, May 2, when they host the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational from Cobb Track and Angell Field. The annual event is one of the top track meets in the nation each year. The evening distance carnival often provides some of the world's fastest times of the year.
