Stanford Synchro Finishes As Runner-Up At U.S. Nationals

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The Stanford synchronized swimming team totaled 27 points to finish as the 2010 U.S. Nationals runner-up in Huntersville, N.C., Saturday.

The Walnut Creek Aquanuts won the U.S. National title, scoring 35 points for the high point crown. The Univesity of the Incarnate Word captured third place with 21 points.

Stanford's team of Alex Bollaidlaw, Debbie Chen, Madison Crocker, Taylor Durand, Jessica Guenther, Gayle Lee, Corinne Smith and Koko Urata placed first in the event with a combined technical and free score of 178.500.

Cardinal seniors Chen and Durand finished their careers at Stanford with a first-place finish in the duet. The pair tallied a combined score of 174.292 to win the title.

In the solo final, Guenther, a freshman, totaled 170.458 points for an eighth-place finish in the competition.

The event marked the end of the 2010 season for the Cardinal. Stanford finished as the national runner-up in both the U.S. Collegiate Championships and the U.S. Nationals.
