COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Redshirt freshman Evan Silver upset a ranked opponent, but Stanford fell to Brown (16-15), No. 21 Maryland (27-12) and Harvard (28-9), Saturday, at Comcast Pavilion in College Park, Md. The Cardinal drops to 4-9 overall this season.

Stanford suffered a heartbreaking loss to Brown in its closest dual of the season. The Cardinal won five of the 10 bouts but came up short in the end. Silver, a native of Chevy Chase, Md., put Stanford on the board first with a 3-2 decision over Brown junior Billy Watterson.

The Cardinal dropped the next two bouts before winning three in a row. At 149 pounds, junior Donovan Halpin secured his second dual win of the year with a 5-3 decision over Grant Overcashier. Wrestling at 157 pounds for the first time in his career, senior Timmy Boone posted his 16th win of the season with an 8-2 decision over CJ Howard. Junior 165-pounder Bret Baumbach also tallied an 8-2 decision for the Cardinal over Brown's Philip Marano. Junior heavyweight Dan Scherer capped off the scoring for the Cardinal with a 7-5 decision against Marcos Aranda.

Former Stanford head coach Kerry McCoy and the 21st-ranked Terrapins were a tougher challenge for the Cardinal. Silver led the team, which picked up four individual wins, with a 4-2 sudden victory over No. 17 Shane Gentry. It marked the ninth dual win for the rookie and the first career win over a ranked opponent.

Also picking up wins for Stanford were junior Kyle Meyer, Baumbach and Scherer. Back in the line-up for the Cardinal, Meyer registered a 7-0 decision over TJ Guidice at 157 pounds. At 165 pounds, Baumbach earned his eighth dual win of the year with an 8-3 decision against Josh Snook. Scherer improved to 7-4 in duals with a 7-3 decision over Carl Buchholz at heavyweight.

The Cardinal dropped its final dual of the day to Harvard, 28-9. Silver, Baumbach and Scherer finished the day 3-0. Silver, who leads Stanford with 18 overall wins, edged Jeff Ott, 3-2, at 125 pounds. Baumbach pushed his season record to 14-8 overall with a 6-2 decision against Devon Gobbo at 165 pounds. Scherer completed a solid outing with a 6-0 decision over Nick Gajdzik at heavyweight. The junior is now 15-6 overall this season.

Stanford wraps-up the weekend at American in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Jan. 13. The Eagles posted a one-point win over the Cardinal (18-17) last season in Burnham Pavilion.
