Streak Hits 26

With the wins, Stanford (10-0) advances to face No. 4 California in the semifinals tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex. The Cardinal has held its opponent to three goals or less in six of its 10 wins this season and posted seven double-digit victories.

No. 1 Stanford 13 – No. 19 Pacific 3

Early offense powered Stanford to its second win of the season over Pacific. The Cardinal scored the game’s first six goals to beat the Tigers for the second time in just over a month, 13-3. Stanford opened its 2015 campaign with a 14-3 victory over Pacific in San Jose on Jan. 17.

Jordan Raney and Kiley Neushul started the onslaught for Stanford before Maggie Steffens got in on the action with 5:23 on the clock. A Gurpreet Sohi steal led Ashley Grossman to feed Steffens, who put home the 2-on-1 score. One minute later, a Grossman steal allowed Neuhsul to finish on the breakaway (4:26) and put Stanford on top 4-0.

Dani Jackovich slammed one home on the post at 1:42 and Steffens again got on the board when she skipped one in off the left post with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter. A late exclusion allowed Pacific to score a power-play goal with 0:05 on the clock and the Cardinal led 6-1 after one.

Raney opened the second quarter as she did the first, this time slipping behind the defense and scoring off a feed from Cassidy Papa. Another Pacific exclusion goal (3:35) slightly stemmed Stanford’s advantage, but Sohi fired home a bullet (3:08) and then Jackovich scored her second of the game with 44 seconds left in the half. The sophomore took a feed from Rachel Johnson and slid her attempt in between Pacific’s goalkeeper and the near post.

Up 9-2 at the break, Stanford’s second half began with a goal from Steffens at 2:48 and then Ashley Grossman closed out the third with a pair of her own. Steffens smothered Pacific for a steal, Rachel Johnson hit Grossman who put hers home at 1:58. She scored an impressive goal moments later off a long pass from Steffens, back-handed from center tank.

Gurpreet Sohi won the sprint to start the fourth and earned her goal at 7:30 in the final quarter. Gabby Stone played the first quarter and made three saves. Emily Dorst went the rest of the way in the cage, stopping nine.

No. 1 Stanford 16 – No. 9 Cal State Northridge 3

Scores from 10 different Cardinal, including multi-goal efforts from Ashley Grossman, Kiley Neushul, Maggie Steffens and Katie Dudley powered Stanford to a 16-3 win over No. 9 Cal State Northridge.

Grossman drew a penalty, which Kiley Neushul converted at 5:43 to begin the game. Grossman then cranked home back-to-back goals herself and a drive and score from Steffens (0:39) put Stanford on top 4-1 after the first quarter.

Freshman Katie Dudley found a way to fire one in with a defender draped all over her at the 6:00 mark of the second quarter. Kiley Neushul ripped one home at 5:10 and Rachel Johnson added another off a steal at 3:10. Following a CSUN goal, a Steffens wrist shot from the point (2:15) put the Cardinal up 8-2 at the half.

Grossman, Raney and Neushul did the damage for Stanford in the third. First, Neushul pounced on a CSUN pass and Grossman fired in the breakaway strike (7:02). Next, a 3-on-2 opportunity for the Cardinal was converted with a five-meter skip from Raney at 5:28. Neushul closed the quarter with an exclusion goal from center forward (3:46).

Stanford scored five in the third to close the rout. Jamie Neuhsul scored on a lob (7:11), Dudley on an entry from Gurpreet Sohi (6:33), Sohi on a slip under the bar (5:17), Cleary at 2:18 and Papa on a shot skipped under the goalkeeper (0:28).

Gabby Stone manned the cage for the first three quarters, making seven saves. Emily Dorst came in in the fourth and stopped one.
