LONG BEACH, Calif. – The 13th-ranked Stanford men’s volleyball team dropped a 25-20, 25-17, 25-21 decision at No. 10 Long Beach State, Saturday, at the Pyramid in Long Beach, California. The Cardinal falls to 9-13 overall and 6-10 in the MPSF, while the 49ers move to 13-11 on the year and to 9-10 in the conference.

Without starting setter James Shaw for the second straight match, the Cardinal hit just .186 against the 49ers, committing 23 attack errors. Long Beach State posted a .361 team hitting percentage and limited itself to just seven attack errors.

The Cardinal had trouble with the 49ers' block, accounting for 12.5 of the team's hitting errors. Stanford led briefly in the opening set, but trailied Long Beach State the rest of the way.

Junior outside hitter Madison Hayden had a match-high 16 kills to go with five digs. In total, 12 different Cardinal players took the court. Junior Alex Stephanus finished with seven kills on a .333 attack percentage in two sets played.

Senior middle blocker Spencer Haly added six kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while freshman setter Kyle Dagostino racked up 29 assists and six digs. Freshman Evan Enriques and fifth-year senior Grant Delgado shared time at libero, notching four and six digs, respectively.

John La Rusch and Cody Martin combined for 21 of Long Beach State's 33 kills, and both players hit over .400 for the match. 

Stanford returns to The Farm next week to play host to Cal Baptist University on Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. The Cardinal will also welcome No. 9 USC on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
