NFF Scholar-Athlete Finalist

IRVING, Texas – Stanford freshman cornerback Frank Buncom was named one of 40 finalists for the 2015 National High School Scholar-Athlete Awards, it was announced Thursday. The National Football Foundation (NFF) will honor one player from each of the country’s five regions as the best and brightest for their accomplishments as athletes, scholars and citizens at the high school level during the week of Oct. 5.

Buncom attended St. Augustine High School in San Diego, California, and was nominated by the NFF Walter J. Zable/San Diego Chapter, earning Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A consensus four-star recruit, he was a two-time all-state pick and 2014 Semper Fidelis All-America.

During the past 24 years, 105 student-athletes have been recognized as NFF National High School Scholar-Athletes. Former Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck, now playing for the Indianapolis Colts, was honored in 2008. Current Cardinal Sam Yules was the last Stanford student-athlete to be honored.
