Two Secure All-America Status

NEW YORK CITY - Redshirt sophomore Connor Schram won in the Round of 12, Friday, at Madison Square Garden to secure the second All-America honors for the Cardinal at the 2016 NCAA Championships, joining true freshman Joey McKenna.

Schram, the No. 10 seed at 125 pounds, posted a 3-1 decision over 11th-seeded Ronnie Bresser of Oregon State in the Round of 12 to secure his first career All-America honors. Schram scored two near fall points in the second period and tacked on an escape in the third for the win, which moves him to 23-6 on the season.

Schram defeated Bresser for the third time this season. He won 3-1 on a last second takedown in sudden victory in a home dual on Feb. 4. He then won 2-2 after the second tiebreaker on riding time criteria to take home his first Pac-12 Conference title.

Schram becomes the program's 19th All-American, and just the eighth underclassman to earn the status. The last time the Cardinal produced two All-Americans in the same season was 2012 when Nick Amuchastegui (174 pounds) placed second and Ryan Mango (125 pounds) took fifth.

Schram then dropped a hard-fought decision to Michigan's Conor Youtsey. Tied 3-3 after the second tiebreaker, Youtsey was awarded the win on criteria (riding time). Schram will wrestle fifth-seeded Ryan Millhof (OU) for seventh place on Saturday morning.

McKenna, the No. 2 seed at 141 pounds, fell in the semifinals to 14th-seeded Bryce Meredith of Wyoming, 5-3. McKenna will wrestle on Saturday morning for a spot in the third-place bout. He is now 25-3 on the season.

Redshirt junior Jim Wilson, seeded 13th at 165 pounds, came one win shy of reaching All-America status for the second straight year. He dropped a 4-1 decision to 10th-seeded Austin Wilson of Nebraska in the Round of 12. He finished his third season on The Farm with a 27-8 overall record.

Saturday's morning session begins at 8 a.m. PT and will be televised live on ESPNU. Additionally, all matches will be streamed on WatchESPN (espn3.com).
