RIVERIA MAYA, Mexico – Six scored in double figures and No. 11 Stanford shot better than 60 percent from the floor in an 87-39 rout of Wichita State on the day two of the Cancun Challenge Friday.
Brittany McPhee and Shannon Coffee led the way with 13, Erica McCall added 12 and Alanna Smith, Marta Sniezek and Nadia Fingal each chipped in 11. Stanford (5-1) made 33-of-53 (.623), its best shooting performance since it opened up the 2014-15 season by converting on 64.9 percent of its shots in a win over Boston College.
The Shockers (1-4) made it a two-point game, 13-11, on a Diamond Lockhart 3-pointer late in the first quarter before Stanford reeled off 23 straight points over the next 6:38. Wichita State didn't score in the second period until there was 4:47 on the clock and only managed 12 total points across the second and third quarters.
Fingall started the run with a triple, Sniezek sank two free throws and McPhee made a layup to close the first quarter. McCall kept it going in the second, scoring Stanford's first seven points on a 3-pointer of her own, a finish at the rim and a midrange jumper. Coffee and Karlie Samuelson each hit from just inside the arc and a pair of McPhee layups sandwiched around a DiJonai Carrington free throw capped the spurt.
Coffee had a career day, setting personal bests in both points (13) and rebounds (7) in 18 minutes. She was 5-of-5 from the floor and is 10-of-11 in the Cardinal's last three games. Fingall also didn't miss any of her five attempts and as a group Stanford's posts shot 18-of-25 (.720).
Sniezek had five assists against zero turnovers for the second straight day to go along with her career-high tying 11 points. Stanford had 23 assists on its 33 made baskets and upped its per game average to 19.2.
