Balanced Attack Leads to Exhibition Win

SHANGHAI, China – Junior Reid Travis led five Cardinal in double figures with 20 points, as Stanford earned a 98-56 victory over Tsinghua Wednesday afternoon in an exhibition at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Travis scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as the Cardinal raced out to a 52-28 lead at the break. The junior forward, who was 9-of-10 from the field, also collected seven rebounds, three assists and a block in 20 minutes of action.

Junior Dorian Pickens (18), senior Grant Verhoeven (10), junior Michael Humphrey (10) and sophomore Marcus Sheffield (10) joined Travis as double-figure scorers for the Cardinal.

Playing under FIBA rules, which included four 10-minute quarters, the Cardinal built a 23-14 lead after one period. Back-to-back three-pointers by Pickens to start the second quarter stretched Stanford's led to double digits (29-24), and the Cardinal never looked back from there en route to the convincing victory.

Sophomore Robert Cartwright registered six assists and three steals in 17 minutes, in his first game in more than year, after he missed all of last season with an arm injury.

Freshman Trevor Stanback collected a team-high nine rebounds in 10 minute of action for the Cardinal.

With its exhibition in the books, Stanford turns its attention to Friday's regular-season opener against Harvard at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai (8 p.m. PT, 12 p.m. on Saturday in China).
