TEMPE, Ariz. – Nine Stanford players combined for 21 hits to earn a wild 16-9 victory against Purdue on Saturday afternoon at the Tempe Sports Complex.
It is the most runs the Cardinal (4-0) has scored in a single game since May 4, 2013, in a 17-2 victory at California. It is the most hits in a single game in over 10 years.
Stanford was paced offensively by Teaghan Cowles (4-for-5) and Lauren Bertoy (5-for-5). Cowles registered a team-high four RBIs and scored twice. Bertoy recorded a career-high five hits, including a double, and scored two runs.
Bertoy's five hits ties her for the most hits in a single game by a Stanford player in program history.
Whitney Burks and Lauren Wegner hit back-to-back two-run home runs in the top of the sixth inning. It is the second home run of the weekend for Burks and the first for Wegner.
Kylie Sorenson, Montana Dixon and Alyssa Horeczko each recorded multi-hit games.
Nikki Bauer started her second consecutive game and pitched well, going 5.1 innings and limiting Purdue to two earned runs on 12 hits and two walks. Kiana Pancino came in during the sixth inning as relief and contributed 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while picking up two strikeouts.
The pitching duo had to do a bit of extra work because of a subpar defensive performance by the defense which made five errors. Bauer and Pancino were unfazed by the extra work and did well to keep the Cardinal in the game.
Teaghan Cowles had a monster game - 4-for-5, four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base.

Teaghan Cowles went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.
Stanford found itself in an early 4-0 hole in the first inning after an error prolonged the inning. The Cardinal responded quickly, matching the Boilermakers in the top of the second to level the score at 4-4.
Stanford took a 7-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Its advantage did not last long, however, as Purdue responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the deficit to, 7-6.
The Cardinal trailed for a second time in the fifth inning when the Boilermakers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.
Stanford erupted for eight runs on nine hits in the following stanza to retake a commanding 15-8 lead. Purdue got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning but Pancino shut the door for the remainder of the game.
Bertoy added an RBI-single in the top of the seventh to extend Stanford's lead to 16-9.
Stanford will look to keep its perfect record intact Sunday, taking on San Diego at 8 a.m. (PT) and Fresno State at 10:45 a.m.
