Saturday Sweep

LONG BEACH, Calif. – In a complete team effort, No. 2 Stanford downed Wright State, Saturday, at Walter Pyramid.
 
It was the third consecutive sweep to start the season for the Cardinal (3-0), while the Raiders (0-3) are still looking for their first victory.
 
Sophomore setter Jenna Gray directed the offense to a .349 attack percentage, tallying 31 assists. She also got in on the action, recording four kills and two service aces.
 
Stanford's defense was solid as well asserting its physicality at the net with 12.0 blocks. Both teams collected 37 digs, while the Cardinal held a 7-3 advantage in aces.
 
Sophomore Kathryn Plummer and freshman Meghan McClure each turned in nine kills to lead Stanford. Plummer added six digs, five blocks and an ace, while McClure secured four digs, three blocks and a career-high three aces.
 
Redshirt freshman Michaela Keefe was errorless offensively with eight kills on .400 hitting. Sophomore middle blocker Audriana Fitzmorris added four kills on .400 hitting and five blocks.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Kate Formico racked up a team-high 10 digs, while sophomore libero Morgan Hentz finished with seven. Sophomore Caitlin Keefe entered the match in third for twin sister Michaela and notched two digs and an ace.
 
Making their season debuts Saturday were junior middle blocker Alexis Froistad, who returned to the court for the Cardinal for the first time since 2015, and freshman Sidney Wilson.
 
Wright State was led by Katie Klusman's nine kills, while Abby Barcus chipped in with seven. Libero Jessie Thornton had a match-high 15 digs.
 
Stanford remains on the road next week, travelling to College Station, Texas to face No. 6 Penn State on September 1 and Texas A&M on September 3.
