Freshmen Features: Part VII

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshmen from the Stanford women's lacrosse team answer some frequently asked questions and give some insight into what it's like to be a freshman at Stanford. Our seventh and final installment:
What advice would you give to future Cardinal laxers?
Rachel Cowan (Cherry Hills Village, Colorado)
Have fun playing, and work hard on and off the field. Hard work really does pay off and in turn, you will have endless opportunities. Take advantage of what's around you and be grateful for the opportunity to play such an awesome sport!

Katherine Gjertsen (Winnetka, Illinois)
Continue to work hard and always know that your teammates are there to support you no matter what. It is such a privilege to be a Stanford student-athlete, and although it can be challenging at times, it is unbelievably rewarding to learn at such a great university while also being a part of a team where we are collaborating to achieve a common goal that is greater than one person.

Galen Lew (Glen Ridge, New Jersey)
I would give the advice of not being afraid to reach out to your future teammates and ask any questions that you might have. Of course we are willing to help you transition from high school to college because we are still trying to figure that out as well. It's also okay to not have it all together all the time. It's stressful to be in a competitive school such as Stanford, but just knowing that everyone else around you is going through the same thing makes it okay not to be perfect.

Gabby Noto (Atherton, California)
Work hard and have fun. Control what you can control and let everything fall into place, but don't forget to enjoy yourself :)

Chelsea Trattner (Ridgewood, New Jersey)
My advice to future cardinal laxers is to never stop growing as a lacrosse player and person. Stanford provides amazing opportunities to both students and athletes that must be taken advantage of. When you get here, enjoy every moment of this wonderful experience.

Marianna Salvatori (Baltimore, Maryland)
Be grateful that you get to wake up every morning and wear Stanford lacrosse across your chest. It is something that so many girls have dreamed of, and we are living the dream.

Taylor Scornavacco (San Diego, California)
To all the future Card out there, I'd just like to say—always be grateful for every opportunity that you get, whether it is on the field or in the classroom, because we are truly blessed to have this experience. Stay true to who you are and never underestimate the value of hard work and passion. I've only been on the team for a couple months now, but I can tell you with assurance that it will be one of the most rewarding times of your life.
