Spring Schedule Announced

STANFORD, Calif. – Highlighted by alumni games and a national championship ring ceremony on May 12, the Stanford men's soccer program announced its spring schedule on Monday as it prepares for the rigors of defending its back-to-back-to-back NCAA titles.

The high point of the Cardinal's five-date spring slate is on Saturday, May 12 when it hosts its alumni games and ring ceremony. Matches will feature alums against alums and alums against the current Stanford team before culminating with a dinner and ring ceremony at which the squad will receive its national title jewelry.

"It is hard to believe that we will be hosting our alumni for a ring ceremony yet again and we are looking forward to proudly recognizing the 2017 team on May 12," Knowles Family Director of Men's Soccer Jeremy Gunn said. "We hope that all of our alums who have played a part in our great program throughout the years can come celebrate together. We have been spoiled with incredible success over the past few seasons and it is my sincere hope that we can give this most recent group the send-off they deserve."

Any alumni wishing to attend the festivities are welcome to contact assistant coach Charles Rodriguez at smsoccer@stanford.edu. A full schedule of the day and additional details can be found here.

The Cardinal begins its spring on the road at San Jose State on Saturday, April 14. Stanford started its 2017 regular season with a 4-0 road victory over the Spartans last August 25, the program's highest scoring output in its first game of the year since 2002.

The remainder of Stanford's spring slate will be at home in Cagan Stadium. The Cardinal hosts SF City FC on Friday, April 20 (7 p.m.), SF Glens SC on Friday, April 27 (7 p.m.), UC Davis on Saturday, May 5 (3 p.m.) and Santa Clara on Friday, May 18 (7 p.m.).

Stanford's home spring games are free and open to the public.

"The spring matches will provide incredible opportunities to grow and mature," Gunn added. "We will get to see some excellent players be rewarded for their unsung efforts in the fall."

Stanford cemented its dynasty in December when it beat Indiana 1-0 in the College Cup final to become just the second school to win three consecutive NCAA championships. The Cardinal, 52-7-10 during its three-year championship run, did not allow a goal throughout the entire tournament for the second straight year and upped its NCAA-record postseason shutout streak to 12 - a stretch of 1,214 minutes and 20 seconds.

Stanford will have a number of holes to fill next season, including replacing its six senior starters from 2017. Foster Langsdorf (Portland Timbers) and Corey Baird (Real Salt Lake) signed Homegrown deals, Tomas Hilliard-Arce was taken by the LA Galaxy with the second overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft, Nico Corti signed with Rio Grande Valley FC and Drew Skundrich, who was also taken by the Galaxy in the draft, recently signed with Bethlehem Steel FC.

The Cardinal recently returned from its foreign tour of England, where it went 3-0 with victories over academy sides from Fulham (3-0), Queens Park Rangers (5-2) and Bradford City (3-1).
