STANFORD, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford was held to its lowest hitting percentage of the season as No. 8 Washington posted a 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-16 win Sunday in Maples Pavilion.
Washington (10-2, 1-1 Pac-12) snapped Stanford's 26-match Pac-12 winning streak. The Cardinal (7-3, 1-1 Pac-12) hadn't lost a conference match since Nov. 8, 2017 at Washington.
The Huskies held the Cardinal to a .111 attack percentage and a season-low 43 kills. Washington out blocked Stanford 16.0 – 9.5. The Cardinal tallied six aces, including a season-high three by Sidney Wilson.
The last time Stanford lost back-to-back matches at Maples Pavilion was in 2016. The Cardinal dropped a pair of four set matches to Utah (Oct. 9, 2016) and Arizona (Oct. 14, 2016).
Senior Kara Bajema led Washington with 17 kills on .302 hitting to go with 10 digs and five blocks. Sophomore Claire Hoffman added 11 kills, while junior Lauren Sanders finished with nine blocks.
Senior setter Jenna Gray totaled 31 assists, eight digs, five kills and two blocks for the Cardinal. Senior Kathryn Plummer led the team with 14 kills, but was held to a .067 hitting percentage. Senior libero Morgan Hentz notched 22 digs – her sixth straight match with 20+ digs.
Senior opposite Audriana Fitzmorris recorded 10 kills and a team-high six blocks, while Madeleine Gates and Meghan McClure each had five kills. Freshman McKenna Vicini played in three of the four sets and had two kills and two digs. Defensive specialist Kate Formico finished with eight digs.
Stanford hits the road again next week, traveling to No. 24 Oregon on Friday and Oregon State on Saturday. Friday's match in Eugene will be televised on ESPN2.
