• Stanford and Washington State meet on Saturday afternoon in Pullman for what is the Cardinal’s final road game of the 2019 regular season. Both teams are seeking a win to improve their bowl odds, as the Cardinal is looking to qualify for a bowl for the 11th straight season.
• A total of 17 Cardinal have made their first career starts so far: Ryan Beecher (ILB), Branson Bragg (RT), Henry Hattis (RG), Stuart Head (SS), Houston Heimuli (FB), Jake Hornibrook (RG), Kyu Blu Kelly (CB), Jonathan McGill (NB), Barrett Miller (LG), Davis Mills (QB), J.J. Parson (NB), Andrew Pryts (ILB), Curtis Robinson (ILB), Walter Rouse (LT), Foster Sarell (RT), Osiris St. Brown (WR) and Jack West (QB).
• Stanford has started the same offensive line combination three consecutive games for the first time since starting the same line in each of the final five games of the 2017 season.
• K.J. Costello became the ninth player in school history to surpass 6,000 career passing yards last week at Colorado. He sits ninth in school history with 6,151 passing yards. Costello’s 6,247 yards of total offense are eighth-most in school history. His 49 career touchdown passes are sixth-most in school history.
• Fifth-year running back Cameron Scarlett moved into 20th on the all-time careerr rushing yards list, surpassing Stanford Hall of Famer Bill Tarr (1953-55) in the game against Colorado. Scarlett’s 22 career rushing touchdowns are 10th-most in school history.
• Fifth-year outside linebacker and captain Casey Toohill was named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. Toohill’s 51 tackles are tied for the team lead, while he also leads the Cardinal with 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. He is third in the Pac-12 in sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, Toohill has added 18 hurries, eight quarterback hits and a forced fumble.
• Sophomore Simi Fehoko has just 12 catches this season, but four of them have gone for touchdowns. He has totaled 356 yards on his 12 catches and is averaging a team-best 29.7 yards per reception. In the first five games of the season, Fehoko had just two catches on 14 targets, according to PFF. But in the last four games he has totaled 10 catches for 319 yards. 11 of his 12 receptions this year have gone for first downs or touchdowns.
• After being thrust into placekicking and kickoff duties, true freshman punter Ryan Sanborn is 4-of-5 on field goal attempts with a long of 40, he’s averaging 41.1 yards per punt on 42 attempts and has kicked off 15 times with 12 touchbacks.
