By all accounts, 2019 did not live up to the expectations and standards Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football David Shaw has for his Cardinal Football program. But there were many positives to draw from a difficult season which saw many starters and key contributors miss much, or all, of the season due to injuries.

In total, Stanford played 21 true freshmen, including 12 who played in more than four games and eight who combined to start 43 games. While a 4-8 season wasn't the way anyone drew it up, Stanford finished the decade with a 98-35 record – the 10th-most wins in college football during the decade and the most wins (by 25) of any decade in program history.
