Four Wins on Day Three

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – On the third day of Pac-12 Championships, No. 1 Stanford won championships in four events and remains in first place with 1027 points, ahead of Cal (866.5) and USC (768).

Before the finals began, the conference named Erin Voss the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the year. Voss, a computer science major with a 4.0 GPA, is a team captain and was a member of three NCAA Championship teams. She is a three-time All-American in the 100-yard backstroke. Voss is also a two-time member of the Pac-12 All-Academic first team and has earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors three times.

Brooke Forde became Stanford's first Pac-12 Champion of the day when she earned the crown in the 400-yard IM with the new fastest time in the country (4:01.53). Joining Forde on the podium was Allie Szekely (4:06.69), who finished third in the event.

Next was the 100 butterfly, in which Emma Wheal (52.16) and Amalie Fackenthal (52.57) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. Anya Goeders (53.89) finished first in the Bonus Final for the 100 fly.

In the 200 free finals, Katie Drabot (1:45.06) placed seventh and Morgan Tankersley (1:45.92) placed eighth.

Allie Raab became the second Pac-12 Champion of the night, earning first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.35, while Zoe Bartel (59.77) earned the bronze. Grace Zhao (1:00.80) earned third place in the Consolation Final.

In the 100 backstroke finals, Lucie Nordmann (52.26), Alex Crisera (52.28) and Voss (52.49) went four-five-six.

Over in the diving well, Carolina Sculti won 3-meter diving with her season best score of 378.55 to become the Pac-12 Champion.

The Cardinal ended the day on a high note, winning its fourth event of the day. Nordmann, Raab, Wheal and Goeders earned first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.93.

Saturday marks the last day of Pac-12 Championships. Preliminaries for the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by the finals starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow night. The 1650 free and 400 free relay will also take place during the evening session. In the diving well, platform prelims will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by the finals in the evening session.
