BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Aria Fischer scored a career-high seven goals, leading No. 1 Stanford to a 16-7 win over No. 18 Indiana on Saturday afternoon in MPSF play.
Stanford (13-0, 1-0 MPSF) opened conference play with a victory, as Saturday's contest also represented the Cardinal's first visit to Bloomington, Indiana.
Fischer, who posted a hat trick through the first quarter and totaled five goals by halftime, fired off 10 shot attempts and achieved her career high with a seventh goal 12 seconds into the final period. Fischer now has 192 career goals, ranking seventh on Stanford's all-time scoring list.
Stanford's defense continued its strong play, allowing fewer than 10 goals for the 12th time this season while holding its opponent scoreless for at least an eight-minute stretch for the seventh time.
The Cardinal converted 3-of-5 power play opportunities and cashed in on 4-of-5 penalty shot attempts.
Fresh off a five-goal performance against No. 2 USC that resulted in MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors, Jenna Flynn contributed four goals on five attempts.
Ryann Neushul added another multi-goal outing while also leading all players with three assists.
Indiana hung tight after one period but was held scoreless in the second, with Fischer and Flynn scoring twice and Hannah Constandse adding a goal.
The Cardinal tacked on two more goals to open the third period, making it 10-3 after Neushul found the net off a counter.
Floranne Carroll became the 20th Cardinal player to score this season when she made it 15-4 with 4:43 remaining.
Maya Avital finished with five saves before giving way to Jackie King, who entered at the 6:52 mark of the fourth period and added three stops.
Stanford next hosts UCLA on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at Avery Aquatic Center.
