STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Alberto Rios set a Stanford record, and matched the Pac-12 record, with 11 RBIs in a 24-9 Stanford victory over CSU Bakersfield on Sunday from Sunken Diamond.
The 11 RBIs matched the previous Pac-12 record of 11 set by UCLA's Bill Scott vs. Washington in a game that started on March 29, 1999 and was completed on March 30, 1999 due to rain.
Rios, who entered the game having driven in six runs in nine games played this year, contributed a two-RBI single in the first, launched his first career home run - a three-run shot - in the second, tallied an RBI-single in the fourth, plated two more with a single in the seventh, and finished his day with a three-run homer in the eighth.
The native of Bellflower, Calif. finished the contest 5-for-7 with three runs scored, the two homers and 11 RBIs.
Stanford (9-2) totaled a season-high 24 runs on a season-best 22 hits to earn a sweep over the Roadrunners (7-5).
Making his first career start at designated hitter, sophomore Jake Sapien finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI - earning his first career hit along the way. Fellow sophomore Temo Becerra also posted his first career hit, shooting a double past the bag at third in the seventh inning as part of a 2-for-2 day coming off the bench.
Freshman Malcolm Moore also had a standout day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Senior Owen Cobb connected for his second career home run - a two-run shot - the eight-run fourth inning for Stanford.
Senior Nicolas Lopez (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen after tossing one shutout inning without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out two. Junior Ryan Bruno also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
