Seven Named All-MPSF

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford was well represented with seven All-MPSF postseason awards selections, matching its highest total since 2014, when seven recipients were also recognized.

Highlighting the selections was Jenna Flynn being named MPSF Newcomer of the Year, becoming the Cardinal's conference-record ninth honoree. Flynn was one of two freshmen to also earn an all-conference spot.

Flynn ranks fifth in the MPSF in goals (49) and eighth in points (63) to go along with 14 assists. Flynn has delivered 13 multiple-goal outings (including in five of the six MPSF games) with 11 hat tricks through 19 games. A three-time MPSF Newcomer of the Week, Flynn is Stanford's most recent Newcomer of the Year recipient, joining Jewel Roemer (2021), Ryann Neushul (2019), Kat Klass (2016), Jordan Raney (2015), Kiley Neushul (2012), Melissa Seidemann (2009), Amber Oland (2008) and Lauren Silver (2006).

Aria Fischer and Ryann Neushul booked spots on the first team, Maya Avital and Flynn were named to the second team and Jewel Roemer was tabbed honorable mention.

The Cardinal was awarded at least five all-conference recipients for the fifth consecutive season.

Flynn, Maggie Hawkins and Ella Woodhead were recognized with spots on the All-Freshman team.

Fischer is a four-time all-MPSF selection, Neushul and Roemer are three-time all-MPSF picks while Avital is being honored for the second time.

Fischer, Neushul and Roemer have been named to the Peter J. Cutino Award Watch List, as Stanford is well represented in the discussion for the nation's top player.

A four-time MPSF Player of the Week this season, Fischer scored a career-high eight goals, including the 200th of her career, in a 19-6 win over Arizona State on March 26. Fischer, who became the seventh player in school history to reach the 200-goal mark and now has 212 overall, leads the Cardinal in goals (57), points (84) and shots (110) while ranking second in assists (27).

Fellow returning All-Americans Neushul (48 goals, 30 assists, 78 points, 82 shots) and Roemer (28 goals, 21 assists, 49 points, 49 shots) have been mainstays for the Cardinal offensively. Neushul leads the team with 17 multi-goal performances while Roemer ranks fourth with 10.

Stanford's defense has been stingy, holding its opponent scoreless for at least an eight-minute stretch in 10 of its 19 games this season. Avital has led the way making 149 saves in goal while totaling at least 10 stops in six contests, including a career-high 17 saves against California on April 22.

Rookies Maggie Hawkins (14 goals, 3 assists, 17 points, 24 shots) and Ella Woodhead (8 goals, 9 assists, 17 points, 25 shots) were among 10 newcomers honored.

No. 2 Stanford (18-1, 5-1 MPSF) is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 21 San Jose State in Friday's opening round of the MPSF Championship at 11 a.m. Stanford is attempting to repeat as MPSF champions for the second time in school history and capture its seventh conference title overall. The Cardinal secured the 2022 MPSF title with an 11-9 victory over USC.
