WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Stanford took second place in the varsity eight and sixth overall at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Sunday at Mercer Lake.
Princeton brought home the IRA Commissioner's Cup (72), followed by Boston (57), Georgetown (55), Radcliffe (49), Wisconsin (46) and Stanford placing sixth (45). MIT (30) and Gordon (6) rounded out the standings.
"We are very proud of the team and their progress throughout the season," said associated head coach Madison Keaty. "This young squad's energy and determination helped push the program forward. While the final results are not to our complete satisfaction yet, this year's team moved the needle in the right direction. From here we'll stay focused on the process, and we're excited for where we are headed. Special shout-out to the seniors for their contributions to the program, their futures are bright!"
The Cardinal took hold of second place early in the varsity eight grand final behind Princeton. Stanford battled to keep its position and got the silver medal at 6:46.310, two whole seconds ahead of third place Georgetown.
The varsity four raced in the grand final, placing seventh with a time of 7:41.545.
Stanford has now brought home at least one podium finish in each of its trips to the sport's national championship dating back to 2014.
Alongside its podium effort at the IRA Championships, Stanford's 2023 season was highlighted by two first-place finishes at the WIRA championships in the varsity eight and varsity four boats.
