Kitahata Scores, Assists on Two in Victory

STANFORD, Calif. – Redshirt sophomore Andrea Kitahata had her hand in all three Stanford goals on Thursday night as No. 5 Stanford (13-0-2, 6-0-1 Pac-12) defeated Oregon State (3-7-5, 0-5-2) 3-1 from Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal struck early in the victory, benefitting from Maya Doms' sixth goal of the year in the ninth minute. Doms, who finished the match with eight shots while putting five on frame, received a pass from Kitahata before cutting it to her right and unleashing a curled right-footed shot from the top of the box that proved too much for Oregon State goalkeeper Hailey Coll.

Stanford extended the lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute as freshman Joelle Jung netted her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Allie Montoya played a short corner, one of nine corners on the night for Stanford, to Kitahata who dribbled toward goal and crossed a grounded ball to a cutting Jung for a one-timer.

Oregon State managed to get a goal back in the 34th minute, but Stanford closed the first half with a 14-4 advantage in shots and the 2-1 lead.

Continuing to pressure the Beavers in the second half, Stanford posted 18 shots in the final 45 minutes – capping the strong offensive night with a third goal in the 75th minute.

After assisting on the first two, Kitahata got into the goal column for her sixth of the year. Freshman Erica Grilione played a ball to Doms who tapped it on to Kitahata as she broke through the Oregon State defense, firing a left-footed shot into the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Campbell was credited with three saves as Stanford outshot Oregon State 32-7. Facing an unrelenting Stanford attack, Coll finished the match with 10 saves.

The Cardinal will remain at home this weekend, welcoming Oregon to The Farm for a noon kickoff on Sunday. The match will be Stanford's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Game, presented by Stanford Medicine. Fans can bid on game-worn pink jerseys by visiting gostanford.com/auctions.
