Card Knocks Off No. 6 Iowa State

        

No. 20 Stanford went into Hilton Coliseum and knocked off No. 6 Iowa State, 23-21, spoiling the Cyclones' season opener.

Despite forfeiting at 125 pounds, Stanford (3-0) scored bonus points in four of its five wins to edge Iowa State (0-1).

The recently retired, NCAA’s all-time winningest coach was honored in a pregame ceremony in which a pair of on-court logos featuring her handwriting were unveiled. VanDerveer’s teams won 531 games on the floor that will forever carry her name.

Stanford Secures No. 3 Seed

                

The Stanford women's soccer team earned a No. 3 national seed in the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament and will host UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA first round on Friday at 6 p.m. from Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal wrapped up the regular season with a 13-4-1 record while going 5-4-1 in its first season competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Stanford boasted a 5-2-1 regular-season record at Cagan Stadium.

Card Records Weekend Sweeps At Home

    

A career hitting night by Sami Francis powered No. 6 Stanford in a 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 win over Clemson, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (18-4, 10-3 ACC) hit .412 as a team while holding Clemson (8-16, 0-13 ACC) to a .177 clip. The Cardinal, which had eight aces and 5.0 blocks, held a 50-27 advantage in kills and out dug the Tigers 52-35. 

No. 6 Stanford fired on all cylinders, hitting a season-high .542 as it swept No. 16 Georgia Tech, 25-9, 25-17, 25-12, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion. 

Stanford (19-4, 11-3 ACC) registered 44 kills with just five attack errors for the match, hitting .778 in the first, .407 in the second and .519 in the third.

Jzaniya Harriel scored a career-high 24 points and Stanford sank a school-record 18 3-pointers to earn Kate Paye her first win as head coach of her alma mater, a 107-43 rout of Le Moyne on Monday night.

The Cardinal continued their torrid start to the season from deep, hitting 13-of-24 (.542) and getting makes from six different players. Through the first three games, Stanford is shooting 57.5 percent on 3-pointers (45-of-78) and has made a school-record 18, 14 and 13 in its three wins.

Dylan Hooper delivered the goal of the year in one of the most miraculous finishes in recent memory for Stanford, scoring from beyond the midfield line with one second remaining to lift the Cardinal to a buzzer-beating 3-2 victory over Notre Dame on Wednesday evening.

Stanford men’s basketball began the Kyle Smith era in style, defeating Denver at Maples Pavilion, 85-62. The win was the Cardinal’s ninth in a row over the Pioneers, and it was the program’s 14th in a row in a season-opener.

 

 

Stanford rode a second half surge to move to 2-0 on the season, defeating Cal State Fullerton at Maples Pavilion, 80-53. Benny Gealer and Jaylen Blakes each recorded career highs, with Gealer scoring 20 points with six made threes and Blakes had 18 points to go with five assists and no turnovers.

 The No. 2 Cardinal utilized a 13-goal second half to surge past No. 17 Santa Clara this afternoon, moving to 17-3 (3-2) on the season. Five different players scored multiple goals for Stanford, led by Soren Jensen's four.

The No. 2 Stanford Cardinal defeated No. 17 UC San Diego this afternoon, moving to 18-3 (3-2) on the season this afternoon, behind three goals and three assists from Jackson Painter.

Petersen Posts Top-Five Finish

      

The Cardinal wrapped up its first ICSA event of the fall slate over the weekend as junior skipper Chapman Petersen came home with a top-five finish in the ICSA Singlehanded Championships.

Petersen finished fifth for the Glen S. Taylor trophy with 92 points and three race wins in the 13-race event, slotting in 35 points behind champion Daniel Escudero of the Webb Institute.
