Perfect Fall Wraps Up

       

 A perfect fall season closed out in a perfect way on Wednesday for the top-ranked Stanford Cardinal. The Nanea Invitational finished Stanford-heavy at the top, with the Cardinal winning the tournament, having the individual champion, and a trio of golfers land in the top four.

With the win, Stanford runs its tournament winning streak to six, the longest in program history. Stanford’s previous longest winning streak was five, which it did around its 2022 national championship and into the start of the 2022-23 season. It is also the longest active streak in the country.

Stanford Takes Down Florida State

                

Led by Elia Rubin and Ipar Kurt, No. 5 Stanford bounced back on Sunday with a 20-25, 25-16, 25-10, 25-22 win over No. 23 Florida State in the Tully Gymnasium.

Stanford (17-4, 9-3 ACC) hit .412 as a team while holding Florida State (16-6, 8-4 ACC) to a .254 clip. The Cardinal finished with 59 kills, nine aces and 11.0 blocks. Stanford out dug the Seminoles, 55-32.

Cardinal fencing opened the 2024-25 season with a strong showing at the Western Invitational, as the women’s team went 6-2 and the men’s team finished 4-2. Both teams upset No. 1 Harvard, and the women’s team added an upset of No. 5 Northwestern.

On day one, the foil teams led the way with both the men’s and women’s squads both going a perfect 4-0. Both foil teams upset Ohio State, with the Buckeyes’ men’s side ranked No. 6 and the women ranked No. 10. Freshman Renzo Fukuda and sophomore Arianna Cao each went 11-1. Sanjay Kasi went 10-2 and Crystal Qian went 6-2 in the weekend’s opening day.

A flurry of goals in the third period and a stout defensive display lifted Stanford to a 3-1 victory over California in Friday evening's regular-season finale. 

With the win, the Cardinal clinched a berth in the ACC Championships, jumping to 8-8 on the year with a 2-6 mark in conference play. California moves to a 7-9, 1-7 ACC record.

The Stanford Cardinal topped USC this afternoon, after the two teams entered tied for the No. 2 ranking in the CWPA poll. The Cardinal’s 9-5 win pushed the team to 16-2 (3-1), as well as 3-0 at home.

Both sides limited scoring opportunities in the first quarter, heading into the second quarter locked at 1-1. Soren Jensen recorded the Cardinal’s lone score, on an assist from Gavin West.

Wrestling Sweeps Utah Valley, CSU Bakersfield

       

No. 21 Stanford wrestling opened its season on a strong note, downing Utah Valley and CSU Bakersfield by identical scorelines, 29-12. The Cardinal stands at 2-0.

Five Stanford wrestlers posted perfect 2-0 records on the evening: Tyler KnoxJaden AbasGrigor CholakyanLorenzo Norman and Luke Duthie. Knox and Cholakyan each tallied a pin, while Norman scored two wins by technical fall.

Nunu Agara

Agara Aggressive In Exhibition Victory

    

Nunu Agara had game highs of 25 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to lead Stanford to a 91-70 exhibition victory over Cal State LA on Wednesday night.

Agara led six Cardinal in double figures as Stanford shot 46.9 percent from the floor (30-of-64) and 91.3 percent at the free throw line (21-of-23). Elena BosganaChloe Clardy and Jzaniya Harriel each had 11, while Brooke Demetre and Courtney Ogden chipped in 10 apiece.
