GREENSBORO, N.C. - No. 3 Stanford added its first individual ACC champion and four more podium finishes on Wednesday evening, climbing up to second in the team standings after day two of the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships.
Wednesday's finals opened with the 200 freestyle relay, as Torri Huske, Lucy Thomas, Gigi Johnson, and Amy Tang kept Stanford's relay podium streak alive with the third-place effort of 1:26.08, finishing behind the Virginia and Louisville relay groups.
The 500 Free final saw a dead heat finish between Aurora Roghair and Virginia's Katie Grimes, as the two were tied heading into the final 50 yards before Roghair ultimately touched second with a 4:32.88 time. Kayla Wilson (4:40.50) and Natalie Mannion (4:43.34) finished sixth and eighth in the "A" final, respectively, while Bailey O'Regan finished fourth in the "C" final with a 4:45.08 to finish 20th overall in the event.
Torri Huske became Stanford's first individual champion in the ACC era, clocking a race-winning time of 1:51.46 in a 200 IM final that featured five Cardinal swimmers. Caroline Bricker posted a career-best time of 1:52.97 to touch second, while Lucy Bell (1:54.74), Lillie Nordmann (1:55.15), and Emily Thompson (1:55.87) finished fifth, sixth, and seventh in the event.
Action came to a close in the 50 free, where Lucy Thomas was Stanford's highest-finishing sprint freestyler with a 22.30 to finish 19th overall, followed by a 21st place effort from Amy Tang with a 22.36.
Following the conclusion of Wednesday's events, the Cardinal sits second in the team race with 413 points, trailing leader Virginia by an 81.5 point deficit.
The conference championships resume tomorrow with prelims at 6:30 a.m. PT and finals at 2:30 p.m. PT, featuring the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 400 IM, and 3-meter dive.
