TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 1 Stanford received hat tricks from three different players, highlighting an 18-12 victory over No. 10 Arizona State to open MPSF play.
Serena Browne, Jenna Flynn and Jewel Roemer each recorded a hat trick for Stanford (13-0, 1-0 MPSF), which remained unbeaten and secured its first true road win of the season.
The Cardinal led 8-4 at halftime and 11-5 through three periods before both teams erupted for seven goals in the final quarter.
Nine different players found the net for Stanford, which maintained its streak of scoring at least 10 goals in every game this season.
Flynn achieved her hat trick at the 4:41 mark of the second quarter, extending Stanford’s lead to 6-3.
Back-to-back goals by Roemer to open the third period put the Cardinal into double digits at 10-5.
Kamryn Barone and Maggie Hawkins delivered two goals apiece in the fourth period.
Christine Carpenter started and finished with seven saves while Jackie King played the final 3:27.
Stanford is idle until Saturday, March 22, when it hosts Harvard at 1 p.m.
