Stanford Drops Series to Notre Dame

The Cardinal was shut out 11-0 on Saturday

STANFORD, Calif. – Notre Dame (19-17, 6-14 ACC) scored in six of the seven innings played on Saturday while holding Stanford (19-16, 6-14 ACC) scoreless on four hits en route to earning an 11-0 shutout victory that clinched a series win from Sunken Diamond.

Right-hander Rory Fox went the distance in the run-rule victory, striking out six and allowing just one free pass – a hit-by-pitch of Rintaro Sasaki in the fifth inning. Fox improved to 1-3 on the season with the victory and handed Stanford it’s fifth run-rule loss of the year.

Carson Tinney led the way for the Fighting Irish, launching a pair of homers and a double as part of a 3-for-4 day that included four runs scored and four RBIs. With the two round-trippers, Tinney now has nine on the season.

Stanford utilized a bullpen day on Saturday, handing the ball to Trevor Moore for the start. Moore allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings to take the loss and drop to 1-3 on the year. Sam Garewal carried the load for three innings, allowing four runs (one earned) with three strikeouts as the Cardinal committed a pair of errors defensively that helped lead to the unearned tallies. Toran O’Harran recorded two outs and freshman Cohen Gomez pitched the top of the seventh – allowing a three-run homer for the second of Tinney’s long balls.

Saturday marked the first time the Cardinal has been shut out this season, and the first for Stanford since a 5-0 shutout at No. 21 Arizona on May 4, 2024. Saturday is also the first shutout suffered by Stanford at home since a 4-0 setback to Cal State Fullerton on February 16, 2024.

Stanford, which has lost 13 of its last 14 in ACC play, will look to get back in the win column on Sunday when junior right-hander Matt Scott takes the mound against righty Jackson Dennies for Notre Dame. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
