INDIANAPOLIS – No. 1 Stanford opened its chase for a 10th NCAA title with a dominant opening-round victory on Friday, matching its school scoring record in a 28-6 rout of Wagner.

The nation’s only program to have participated in all 24 NCAA Championships since the event’s inception in 2001, Stanford (23-1, 5-1 MPSF) looked sharp throughout in its first action since capturing the MPSF title two weeks ago.

The Cardinal had produced a school-record 28 goals on two previous occasions, both during its 1997 campaign in wins against Whittier (28-2 on March 26) and Oregon (28-3 on April 25).

Stanford, which had defeated Wagner 24-4 back on Feb. 8 at the Midwest Invite, reached the 20-goal mark for the fifth time this season and first time in NCAA play since 2023.

Juliette Dhalluin, Maggie Hawkins, Ryann Neushul, Alissa Pascual and Ella Woodhead all completed hat tricks for Stanford, which received goals from 13 different players.

The Cardinal’s offensive depth was on display throughout the game, marking the 11th time this season that at least 10 different players scored a goal.

Stanford, which is bidding for its third NCAA crown in the last four seasons, was in control from start to finish. The Cardinal built a 10-1 lead through the opening period and led 17-1 at halftime.

Elenor Facey’s score at the 1:53 mark of the third period resulted in Stanford reaching the 20-goal mark.

Kamryn Barone later converted Stanford’s sixth penalty shot of the match with 1:24 remaining to match the school record and round out the scoring.

Neushul increased her career scoring total to 226 goals, moving into a tie with Aria Fischer (2018-19, 2022-23) for fifth place on the Cardinal’s all-time list.

Jackie King (nine saves) and Christine Carpenter (six saves) alternated for the Cardinal in goal.

Stanford next faces Hawai'i in Saturday’s semifinals at 9 a.m. PT. The Cardinal defeated the Rainbow Wahine 12-7 back on Jan. 18 at the Cal Cup in Berkeley.
