PULLMAN, Wash. – Hailee Swain scored 10, Nunu Agara had nine points and eight rebounds, and Stanford came away with a 54-46 road victory at Washington State on Friday night.
The Cardinal moved to 76-0 all-time against the Cougars with the win.
Stanford (4-0) was up five early in the second half before going on an 8-0 run to grab its largest lead, 42-29. Mary Ashley Stevenson started the spurt when she finished a feed from Chloe Clardy on the right block. Nunu Agara crossed over WSU’s Malia Ruud and converted a baseline reverse and moments later made a backdoor cut to free herself for a pass from Stevenson. Talana Lepolo ended the run with a stepback jumper over Charlotte Abraham.
Abraham hit a 3-pointer and layup for the Cougars (0-4) midway through the final period to pull WSU within seven, 51-44, and force a Cardinal timeout.
The game’s last field goal came coming out of that timeout when Lara Somfai finished baseline on a assist from Clardy driving middle to make it 53-44. Washington State missed its final five shots and Stanford its final three over the last four minutes.
Stevenson had four points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
Last season, Stanford didn’t win its first road game until Jan. 16 and managed two all season.
The Cardinal’s road trip continues Sunday when it plays at Gonzaga at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
