STANFORD, Calif. — Having secured its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) win of the season, Stanford women’s lacrosse closes out the season-opening road swing this week, squaring off against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Monday, February 16. Opening draw from the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex is slated for 9 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. CT.
Opening Draw
Stanford (2-0, 1-0 ACC) is back in action on a quick turnaround, having earned its first ranked win - and first ACC win - of the season with a 10-9 decision over No. 9/8 Clemson on Saturday. Stanford, which up until the latter stages of the third quarter had not led in the game, utilized a five-goal swing between the third and fourth quarters while holding strong defensively to ride out the victory over previously undefeated Clemson.
Leading the charge for the Cardinal in the contest against Clemson was Mallory Hasselbeck and Amanda Lawson who both tallied two goals on the afternoon. Lawson tallied both of her goals in the second quarter, earning one off of a free position attempt while her other sent the game tied heading into halftime after her shot grazed the stick of Aliya Polisky and into the cage. Hasselbeck, however, snagged Stanford’s third goal of the afternoon and kickstarted Stanford’s comeback in the third quarter, scoring in transition after Anna Colpack fed the attacker having gone coast-to-coast on the clear.
Eight different players recorded a goal in the win over Clemson which marked the second-straight game that the Cardinal has had eight or more different goal-scorers in a a game since the last season when the Cardinal had nine against #21/20 Colorado (Feb. 13) and 10 against UC Davis (Feb. 15). Stanford had 11 different goal-scorers in the season-opening win over UC Davis - including four hat tricks - which was the most goal-scorers in a game since April 20, 2024 when Stanford also had 11 players record a goal in what was a 21-8 win over UC Davis.
Returning to action for the first time since April 13, 2024, Annabel Frist has been clinical in her first two games this season, recording two goals and an assist while tallying 12 draw controls and four caused turnovers. First currently ranks ninth all-time in career goals with 127 while slotting second all-time in draw controls with 330, just 42 draw controls away from tying Genesis Lucero for the top spot all-time.
Stanford enters the week at No. 4 in the ILWCA DI Coaches Poll, tying the highest ranking in program history. Stanford entered the season ranked No. 5 in both the ILWomen.com and IWLCA Polls which was the highest preseason ranking for the Cardinal all-time. Stanford’s No. 4 ranking is the third time the Cardinal has been ranked No. 4 in any poll and the second time in the IWLCA Poll after the Cardinal earned the No. 4 rank during the week of March 24, 2025.
Entering the weekend, Aliya Polisky and Mallory Hasselbeck sit tied atop the team lead in points with six on the campaign. Hasselbeck, Polisky and Ava Arceri sit tied atop the team lead in assists with two so far in two games. Stanford, however, has five players tied for the team lead in goals with Polisky, Hasselbeck, Rylee Bouvier, Martha Oakey and Amanda Lawson each potting four goals on the campaign. Stanford currently has 13 players who have recorded a point after Lindsey Devir (1 goal) and Anna Colpack (1 assist) earned points in the win over Clemson.
On the draw, Annabel Frist leads Stanford with 12 on the year following a strong season opener where she tabbed nine draw controls against Davis. Stanford currently has eight players who have recorded a draw control on the season with Jordyn Case slotting second on the team with seven draw controls. Arceri and Case return as part of four Cardinal who tallied 50+ draw controls a season ago as the Cardinal returns 98% of its draw controls from a season ago.
In cage, Lucy Pearson currently holds a 6.86 goals-against average and a .455 save percentage having started both of Stanford’s games this season. Pearson sits tied for seventh all-time in goalkeeping games played (43) and owns a career goals-against average of 9.29. Also earning action for the Cardinal in the win over Davis was sophomore Ella Morton who made her seventh appearance all-time for the Cardinal. Morton tallied one save in the match against the Aggies in 15 minutes of game action.
